PLAY, SING AND SMILE!
A feature-length docudrama about the power of talent, difference and the will to start over
Peter Armstrong Ondria...
Who is the man who donned the mask of Louis Armstrong and traveled to twenty countries around the world singing his songs?
An impersonator, a clown, an entertainment attraction for the audience – or an exceptional singer with a much deeper story to tell?
Peter was born „different.“ He grew up smaller than his peers and spent his entire life trying to make his mark in a world that is often unforgiving of difference. He hid his fear, pain, and loneliness behind a foreign voice, behind a show. He joked so he wouldn't have to talk about what really hurt him. And yet he found his way—to music, to an audience, to the world.
He says about himself: „God took something from me, but he gave me musicality.“
He is happy on stage. Until life deals him another harsh blow. Unexpected, brutal – one that shakes everything he has built up until then. Peter has to get back on his feet. Gather his strength again. Face what is perhaps the hardest obstacle of all.
The docudrama Play, Sing and Smile is not just the story of one man. It is also a portrait of the quiet but persistent strength of an entire community of people with disabilities. People who struggle with prejudice every day and prove that they can do the same—and often even more—than their „luckier“ peers.
