GHOSTS
Milovice, in central Bohemia, is a unique place where a century of military history unfolds. In this creative documentary, directors Bibiana Beňová and Michael Kaboš explore not only the memory of this place but also the deeper question: what is heroism? Once shaped by armies and ideologies that came and went, Milovice today stands as a landscape of ruins filled with forgotten stories—and a cemetery of nameless soldiers. A century after the First World War, the film's protagonists—a retired Czech soldier and an Italian artist—meet at the graves of their grandfathers. The soldier seeks to revive his faded glory amid the ruins of a former military training ground, while the artist searches for personal memories through artistic interventions. Together, they engage in a poignant battle with memory and embark on a quest to understand the true meaning of heroism.
